Bartender pros and cons

You want to be a bartender but don’t know if it’s a good fit? I’ll tell you the pros and cons I’ve experienced: maybe it’ll help :)

Pros:

great FAST money: you need an extra $500 cash to make rent- bartending will help you in one shift if not two- depends on the place you’re working. Again FAST money/ shifts tend to last between 4-6 hours

Extremely laid back: I show up at 10 and get people drunk till 2 and listen to loud music while I do it 🫶

comfortable outfits: I barely get “dressed” for work- now and then I’ll put on a skirt but otherwise it’s leggings and a crop to or workout sets 💕

fun work environment: speaks for itself 🍾

more time for yourself during the day: I’m a full time masters student, working nights gives me days to fulfill my schools needs before partying it up

stress relief: as you know… I’m going through a really tough break up, I feel like I’d be in my bed crying, watching Netflix , eating my feelings, sad… all the things If I wasn’t working… so for me, working gives me less stress and more money!

CONS😑

drunk people: they can be fun…. But you have those drunk people that don’t take no for an answer or get anger drunk and that’s a party pooper at times

not a long term passion: being young I enjoy the night life scene, but once I have children and decide to focus on my professional life, I won’t really care to bartend. It’s a “for the moment” job.

S*x-lization: unfortunately my 🍒 are out, men want to grab, women want to touch, girls slapping your 🍑 when you don’t know them… it’s just a part of the job. I’ve gotten used to it, but I don’t get pushed around. If you don’t have a loud voice and are stern, it may not be the best job. I have to stand my ground pretty often. You’re not a toy, you have to make that known.

not a SET cash flow: some nights you make 200 others you make 400 and some you make 500… just depends on the night.

Long nights: I think the after clean up is the worst- bars are gross- people are gross- but you gotta clean- makes the night feel pretty dragged out- I normally don’t get home till about 3/4 am

RELATIONSHIP STRAINS: this the one that really is important—— no matter how much a “man” says he’s okay with you showing off and being a baddie/ he’s most likely not… he will use it to EVERY advantage he can. Unfortunately that was the reality for every relationship I’ve had where I’ve been a bartender or bottle girl: they do not take you seriously. So just understand having a relationship will be hard. I don’t take any man that flirts with me seriously, and I don’t plan to date while in the industry—— just have fun 💕
