Dominican Dining in The Heights

Jalao NYC is a restaurant that offers authentic Dominican food in the heart of Washington Heights. It is located in the brand new Radio Hotel, and features high ceilings and tropical decor.

Ribs $27. These are baby back pork ribs glazed with a chinola (passion fruit) barbecue sauce, served with yuca frita (fried cassava), grilled corn, and peanuts. The ribs are tender and juicy, and the sauce has a sweet and tangy flavor that complements the meat 9/10.

Croquetas de Chivo $14. These are croquettes made with braised goat meat served with cilantro-basil aioli. The croquettes are crispy on the outside and the goat meat has a rich and savory flavor 6/10.

Paila Jalao $35 This is a platter that includes skirt steak, sausage, pork belly, beans, avocado, and rice. It is also known as la bandera Dominicana (the Dominican flag), because it represents the colors of the national emblem. The platter is hearty and satisfying, and perfect for someone who wants to try a little of everything 8/10.

Jalao has a beautiful interior and is moderately sized. Reservations recommended, especially on nights they have live music. Food rating 8/10, highly recommend the ribs.
