Hamachi 34- Eat sushi surrounded by Anime

Hamachi 34 is a modern Japanese fusion restaurant in New York City that offers a variety of sushi, sashimi, rolls and more.

They have anime themed decor throughout the restaurant. I was seated with Psyduck from Pokémon at my table. Newspapers and comics are used as wallpaper. Different anime figurines are displayed on built-in shelves through the restaurant. It’s a large restaurant with a lot of seating, I saw multiple groups of 6-8 people. There's also a seating area at the sushi bar if preferred. It is comfortable and spacious.

I started with the yellow jalapeño appetizer ($14) and it was a large portion and the jalapeños were very spicy! The chirashi bowl was cut with generous portions as well. The chirashi bowl ($27) comes with assorted sashimi over seasoned sushi rice and is filling. The pork katsu ($25) in the bento box was crispy and tender, served with a tangy sauce. The additions in the box, like the California roll was average in flavor and quality. Food rating 7 of 10.
