What Dating My Husband Taught Me About White Men

Let me start by saying that love isn’t all about race—this is just my personal experience. After moving to NYC and trying out MixerDates, I met my now-husband, and dating him has taught me a few interesting things about white men that I never expected.

Of course, not all white men and not all Black women are the same, but here’s what I’ve learned:

My husband wasn’t into wasting time. From the start, he knew what he wanted, and he went for it. I’ve noticed that many white men, when they’re serious about dating outside their race, tend to be intentional in their pursuit.

Hair? It’s not as big of a deal as we might think. Sure, they may have preferences, but I’ve learned that a lot of white guys don’t obsess over our hair the way we sometimes imagine they might.

There’s a lot of admiration there, too. I can’t count how many times my husband has referred to me as his “Black queen” or “African queen.” It’s a way of celebrating our beauty, and they’re genuinely proud to be with us.

Lastly, being upfront about feelings is appreciated. My husband often mentions how he loves that I express myself. He’s told me in the past, he had relationships where women weren’t as open, and that’s something he values in our connection.

This is just a glimpse of what I’ve learned, but I hope it helps if you're considering interracial dating.
