Well, as everything in life, starting is hard but sustaining it is harder. Starting is by realising if your life is the life you want to look back on? Does your lifestyle depict who you want to be or are proud of? That pang of realisation will hit you one day and it’s really easy to go on a downward spiral but I’m here to hold your hand and guide you on how you can start to cultivate these habits that'll help you lead a better life.

Let me be candid with you and say that this lifestyle I live is still an ever-learning and ever-growing journey for me. I completely understand how hard it is to take charge of your life and it’s not something that most of us are able to do, even in this lifetime. What made me realise I was not actually ‘living’ life was during the final year in my degree. Funnily enough, my programme’s internship is in the third year of our degree not our fourth and during that period of time, I was really fortunate to have a placement in an office that really prioritised work-life balance. It was really refreshing to be surrounded by people who made their life a priority and their work doesn’t define who they are. Definitely building my career is my priority and has always been (as I am someone who strives on academic/career validation). I finally had somewhat of a grasp on my life which I had neglected for the past three years and in my final year of school I made it a priority to work hard but still lived my life. Now after going on that tangent, you must be wondering, where do we start?

🪄 Start small, start slow:

I know on my page I share a lot about the wellness-focused lifestyle I live but that’s not where I was a few years ago. I started taking small, little steps everyday. Those little steps really build up to an incredible habit loop that our bodies will come naturally to. Start with a walk in the park every Saturday or maybe wake up a little earlier in the day for a few months. Slowly add other habits that you feel you want to apply to your life.

🧠 Internalise your mindset:

In my very FIRST post I wrote about mindset and how imperative it is to take control of your life. But really internalising within yourself is just as imperative as the realisation of it. Understand why you are taking control of your life? Write it down if that works for you or talk to your friends or someone whom you trust about it.

🪡 Be consistent, not perfect.

Consistency is a crucial part of the process. And realistically, it’s really tough to be consistent with these habits. Some days are harder than others and that’s okay and that’s valid. What’s important is you pick yourself right where you were and start again. It’s okay to feel burnt out from these habits, trust me, I’m still learning to navigate through it too. But like I said, pick yourself back up right where you left off and you’re all set :).

🫂 Find your community:

If you feel like the people surrounding you don’t align with your values and your beliefs, find a community that does! Reach out to people and make new friends with people that exude the life that you want to live! We really absorb the habits that surround us so surround yourself with what you feel is good for you ☀️. Remember to always find small ways to be show compassion and give people the benefit of the doubt 💛

You’re probably a total stranger but I know I would liked to hear when I was just starting to take control of my life. Obviously there are ups and downs in my life and what you see online are just fragments of a person’s life.
