How I Decorated my Bookshelf

I’m a sucker for all things aesthetic! My bookcase is the heart of all my home decoration pieces. Creating an aesthetically pleasing bookcase means color coordinating, balancing weights and heights and adding small ambiances.

I started with these black sewing machines that I picked up from an All Saints (clothing store) that was shutting down. I wanted to use these machines as my starting point and also anchor the color palette since a lot of my decor was neutral. I began to color coordinate my books to see what colors I had the most of so naturally I had a lot of white books so I wanted that to also be a solid factor. Next, came the big statement pieces which were a little harder to play around with because I have a lot of shapes. Lastly, are all the small trinkets and picture frames to fill in gaps.

Pro tip: Follow the rule of thirds for balance! Only incorporate 3 colors, stage like things in triangles, and incorporate no more than 3 types of pieces in a cluster.
