📍伝説のすた丼屋 Densetsu No Sutadon'ya

In this post, I will be reviewing on the bowl i genuinely enjoyed.

Let me start off with some background on this Japanese Delicacy. Sutadon is a bowl of garlic pork rice that commonly comes with soft boiled egg. The name Stamina Don may be more familiar among the locals, but how did this title come about? In Japan, meals containing pork/garlic are presumed to reduce exhaustion and improve stamina. Hence, this "stamina-boosting" food was created.

What i've tried:

Salt and garlic sauce Sutadon

Ratings: 9/10, Price: 880yen

Reason why i enjoyed this so much:

The prominent flavours of the salt and garlic blends together perfectly into a bowl of savoury goodness. As someone who enjoys savoury food a lot, this was true to my liking.

What my partner tried:

Sutadon with green onion

Ratings: 9.5/10, Price: 880 yen

Reason why my partner enjoys this:

He considered this one of Japan's comfort food. From the thinly sliced pork, flavourful soy-based seasoning, to how the green onion balanced out the savoury meat, he liked every element that came together in this don.

Why is this place worth the visit:

With 880 yen; which is approximately $6-7 sgd ONLY, i was served with a bowl of miso soup and grated yam - a kind of garnish/sides that locals enjoy. The chef was extremely generous in their meat and rice portions which were twice the portion of the meat bowls in Singapore.

This Sutadon chain can be found in every prefecture. Give this a try during your next itinerary to Japan!
