90's Goth Girl Aesthetic

The 90's is one of the most significant eras when it comes to fashion in this day and age. It has a lot of aesthetic mismatches going around and the beginning of the Y2K era in the early 2000's. As a 90's kid, I couldn't help but be partially endeared to that era, even if I spent most of my childhood and teen years in the 2000's. Many great things came from the 90's, such as Furby, the movie Clueless and, of course, boy bands such as Nsync and Backstreet Boys.

Of course, when we talk about the 90's, the one thing that is truly significant about that era would be its fashion. Many of the pieces that we covet nowadays and have become a staple in our wardrobe, such as plaid skirts or flannels, scrunchies and slip dresses, all of them are from the 90's. Without that era, I do not think we would have all these amazing aesthetics people are obsessing over right now.

One of those aesthetics is goth girl. The 90's goth girls were a popular aesthetic back then, probably due to movies such as the Craft and the Addams Family. Both Wednesday Addams and Nancy Downs (two of the most popular characters in those movies) bring that goth look to life with their dark coloured clothing and makeup.

How do I get that 90s goth girl look? First, I took inspiration from Asian influencers on Pinterest. With that in mind, I paired my red shirt with a black faux leather skirt and topped it with a black faux leather tube top. I finished the look with a black shawl, black boots and a small black bag. Don't forget the makeup, for a goth girl hardly ever uses colours in their makeup. Instead, they go with a dark earth tone colour on the eyes and dark lipstick.
