Waterproof Letters (I just used magnetic)

Tongs, spatulas, pinchers, spoons, etc.

Alphabet Soup printout

Reusable sleeve (or lamination or a gallon size baggie)

This activity is not just for alphabet recognition, it is also a sensory and a hand eye coordination activity! Killing 3 birds with one stone - yes please! Let’s go fishing!

First, fill your medium size bowl about halfway full of water and add your waterproof letters to it. Make sure you have one of all of the 26 letters.

Print out the alphabet soup printable I provided or you can make your own. I put ours in a sleeve to keep the paper from getting wet. You can also laminate the worksheet or just put it in a gallon size baggie.

And let your toddler get to fishing! They can use any of the tools (spatulas, tongs, shovels, etc) to fish the letters from the bowl and match them on the worksheet.

This activity can be as guided or as independent as you like. The tot can fish for a specific letter; they can fish a letter and then match it; you can give them a letter to fish for and match; and the learning possibilities are endless!

This kept my toddler busy for 34 minutes this morning! We did both guided and independent play with this activity.
