hey everyone! this post is dedicated to anyone who is considering or planning to enrol in a private uni. before i start, let me share with u a bit of my background so i’m a y3 full-time undergraduate studying at Murdoch University under Kaplan, majoring in psychology and i’m currently in my last trimester.

DISCLAIMER: whatever i shared with u guys is just my own personal experience and perspective so u may or may not go through the same experience as i did when u go to priv uni (or ure alr in a priv uni).

first of all, i didn’t imagine and expect my uni life to be quite saddening until I entered a private uni. I remembered when I was in y1, all of my classes were online due to the covid pandemic so I didn’t have a chance to visit the classrooms, facilities, etc in school. moreover, my school didn’t organise freshmen orientation back then and bc classes were usually held online, I didn’t meet and make any new friends since the only person who’s camera was on was the lecturer 💀💀 so it was rly hard to have a social life in uni 🥲🥲.

however, the modules i have taken so far as a psych student were really interesting and enjoyable since I’ve always been passionate in psychology from young so the academic experience wise was alright and the stress wasn’t difficult to manage as well which surprisingly, im still able to handle my other personal commitments (eg. working part-time) while schooling from back in y1 until now. also, as time passes, the covid situation began to get better so my school decided to have a mix of in-campus and online classes which got me looking forward to go to school as i might be able to use this chance to make some new friends. nevertheless, i realised that the more times i go to classes in campus, a typical day would just be attending lecture for a few hours and den once class has ended, everyone just go home like there’s literally no social life in uni 😭😭.

fast forward 💨💨… now that i’m in my last trimester and looking back, I have fully adjusted myself to uni life and the positive thing is that finally yes my social life has improved abit in which this year, I got to meet and interact with people from different walks of life even though I don’t see them anym since we parted ways (eg. they have graduated alr) which I’m truly happy about it😊😊😩. furthermore, i hv came to realise that the thought of being alone is v normal in uni whether it be going to classes and having meals alone. it is totally okay and we shld normalise it ( even when thr are ppl in ur class who alr know each other except u) but hey, thr are also others who are like me who came to class alone and don’t know anyone.

overall, my uni experience may not be what i wanted to be in the first place but i honestly don’t regret going to priv uni despite being alone most of the time bc being alone can be a therapeutic experience when thr is no one telling u to follow them or convince u to eat at somewhr that udw to and u can just be at peace on ur own discovering places near campus (eg. i just found out this year that my school downstairs got a bubble tea shop and a kpop shop?! 🤩🤩)

therefore, i hope my experience in uni can help to give u some insight on what u may face when studying in a priv uni (specifically Murdoch University, as i’m not sure abt the experience in other priv unis). btw feel free to ask any questions regarding Murdoch University’s curriculum, assignments, etc, u can js ask me in the comments section below 👇 and i will try my best to answer them. if not, i’ll see u in my next post! 👋
