I need ideas!

I have a 6 year old and a 1 year old.

I am someone who love practical gifts for kids for Christmas as well as fun ones. I can think of all the ideas for my 1 year old but am totally drawing blanks for my 6 year old.

I am tired of the amount of junk toys around the house and I am trying to put a lot of thought into what I get them, how much space it will take up, how long they will play with it and can they learn something from it?

He has some great fun ideas of the toys he wants but not so many space saving or practical gifts are coming to mind.

Help! What are you guys getting your 6 year olds?
