AIRBNB IS DEAD + where to book instead

Airbnb has gone downhill in the last few years, and many people are deciding to go back to traditional hotels for a lot of reasons. As someone who has been to 25 countries, this is why I've almost given up on Airbnb.

We all know that the fees associated with booking and Airbnb have gotten out of control. On top of that, you're required to clean, you often can't get an early or late checkout, there isn't anywhere to store your bags before or after check in/checkout, and the amenities can vary greatly in Airbnb properties.

The only times I book with Airbnb: when I'm looking for a super unique stay (like a tiny house or house boat type thing) or when there are just no hotels in the area. When we were in the Scottish Highlands, we booked a great Airbnb because there were just so many more options than hotels since it's not a very populated area. However, in the city, hotels are way better.

Here is what I look for in a hotel: good ratings, great reviews, breakfast included, free cancellation, and other amenities like a gym, sauna, or pool. I use Booking.com to book all of my hotels. Why? They have a loyalty program called Genius, which you earn money off bookings. They also have an extensive network of hotels and reviews of each property.

Things to look out for when booking either a hotel or rental:

- never book anywhere that has 0 reviews. It might be a scam

- don't book anything under an 8 rating on Booking.com

- look out for apartments listed on airbnb and read the fine print! They might have restrictive policies you wouldn't find in a hotel.
