are NUS FOPs even worth it? 💸🔥

as a year 1, i didn’t know which FOPs even existed and I even signed up for an engagement camp on the deadline itself 💀 but here’s a run through of the FOPs i went for and my experiences with them! (all of which i returned to in y2 as either a OGL or Committee member)

1️⃣ hall engagement camps

- if you’re looking to come into a hall with little to no connections (like me), hall engagement camps are what would definitely help you! however you do have to choose which hall’s EC to go to because they tend to have overlapping days

- quite a hit or miss as some do get blacklisted if they act in sus manners or raise red flags but definitely not just judged by extrovert/introvert because i’ve seen introverts survive EC and get into hall

2️⃣ faculty camps

- i’m from nus business so we all know there’s NBC followed by Biz O’ Week. NBC is the one that’s proclaimed to be exclusive because of the cohort. honestly had a lot of fun during this camp but this can NOT beat hall camps because they’re limited heavily by manpower and logistics, it was fun because of the company

- do require to be quite extroverted, after all business is a faculty that requires some level of extrovertness

** also business’ welfare is GAO GAO we really had a lot of yummy lunches and dinners as compared to other faculties

3️⃣ faculty weeks

- most people choose to attend this and i would say they are a pretty safe option. you get to meet people in your faculty and meet people whom you can go to classes with

- will say it was much more of a let down as compared to NBC

4️⃣ hall orientation camp

- not sure if i can say the same for all halls but Temasek’s orientation camp is literally CRAZY. as a freshmen i thought that it was insane how it was carried out and as a committee member i still think it’s amazing how it all comes to play (im apparently not allowed to share because its a yearly tradition to hide the happenings)

- some people do miss orientation camps because of RAG or other things but especially if you’re coming to Temasek, please DO NOT skip!!!

personally i didn’t go to NUSSU Union Camp nor Sports Camp but i didn’t hear too good reviews of them so i decided 4 camps was enough for me 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

if i could do it again, i’d definitely spend all my money on these camps again~
