Staying at a $17/ NIGHT hostel! worth or not?

my friends and i travelled to kota kinabalu recently and while planning for the trip, we realised that we needed a place to stay for the night as we might be unable to make the check in timing at our hostel at mount kinabalu in time. thus, we decided to spend a night at the city first since it is on the way and we were able to find this lodging place for only $17/ night! this averages out to about $5.70 per person and is a great option for those who are travelling on a budget.

the amenities were alright. we had some difficulty finding the place at first coz it was located on top of this shady staircase, but we managed to find it and the staff were really friendly! there was free wifi that worked p well, sufficient charging ports and hangers and lockers, and many other amenities like hot and cold water, showers, soap and even an ironing board. however, the aircon only turns on from 7pm - 7am so it’s best to not spend too much time here in the afternoon! the beds were comfy enough and the pillow was not the most supportive but it’s what it is for $17!

overall, if you are travelling on a budget, it’s a great idea to find cheap hostels especially if it’s just to stopover for a night! however, always remember to read the reviews for the place and check the images from both the hotel and past customers to ensure that the living conditions are still good and sanitary:)
