of course, there were times where attending a small college is hard, i can make another post about that - but overall i am grateful for my experience at my small college in a small town.

❤️ traditions: i got to ring the chapel bell when i was accepted into grad school (and others for accepting jobs)! my sweet political science professor heard me and a classmate hadn’t got to do it yet and said, we’re going to do it right now in class!

📚 recognition for academic achievements: obviously president’s list/dean’s list/VPAA’s lists are way students are honored for academic achievements. but as someone who sees those more as group recognition, i was lucky to be recognized for my individual accomplishments in three different disciplines (psychology, sociology, and political science).

🖤 easier to attain leadership positions in clubs/orgs.: my resume is SLAP FULL of diverse leadership positions thanks to the opportunities i earned and was granted at my small college!

📚 close relationships with professors: in big schools your professors might not even learn your names bc of the huge class sizes and only care about their syllabi. i don’t think i had a class with more than 20 people in it, and our professors knew all of our names. due to small faculty size, i had many of the same professors numerous times. i still reach out to many of them now. i literally wouldn’t be the person i am without them and their genuine support and guidance! if i could give them the world i would.

🌹 my “sorority house” was just 2 bedrooms: less restrictions. you see bigger sorority houses still sharing rooms and having chefs, but us two (we were accepted/voted to live in the house) had our own rooms, kitchen, laundry room, etc.)

🐼 greek life looks different: you see tiktoks where at bigger colleges the pledge classes are over 100+ new members and they don’t even know each other’s names. smaller size (although not ideal in any way for recruitment!!) allowed us to better plan for events and make actual real friendships.

❤️ pretty much anyone that was nominated for to be on homecoming court: i graduated a year early so it was crazy that i was nominated and accepted with the seniors that weren’t the class i came in with!
