Gwangjang Market is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets in Seoul. The market offers a glimpse into Korean tradition, street food, textiles, and local craftsmanship. Here’s my experience at the market!
Upon entering, I felt a bustling atmosphere created by the vibrant stalls and enthusiastic vendors. All the food smelled soooo good!!! I went on a weekend, so it was pretty crowded and I had to squeeze with many others. I went near the summer period too so it was a little warm ~
I saw sooo much good food and couldn’t decide what to get but finally settled on these:
🍜 Naengmyeon
I got the bibim-naengmyeon, which was essentially like a bibimbap, but instead of rice, it was cold noodles. The noodles were sooo springy and I loved the earthy taste of the buckwheat noodles!
🥟 Kimchi Mandu
Korea’s mandus hit different!!! They are hUGEEEE and is filled with so much filling, the skin to filling ratio is perfect!
🫘 Bindaetteok
My first time trying this snack; it is a savory pancake made with ground mung beans, vegetables and meat. It is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside 😋 I really liked this!!
🍓 Strawberries
You can’t say you’ve been to Korea if you didn’t eat their strawberries!!! The strawberries here mostly come in a cup, and are huge and juicy and super sweet!!! Sooo much cheaper than in Singapore as well
There is a second floor in the market as well, selling textiles, jewelry, ceramics and other traditional koreanware as well, but I didn’t have much time to explore. Would love to visit again if I have the chance!
Gwangjang Market is conveniently located near Jongno 5-ga Station, making it easily accessible by subway. It's advisable to visit during weekdays and early in the day to avoid crowds and fully enjoy the experience 🤘
