1. Lion’s Head Hiking Trail

Warning: this is not an easy hike, especially if you’re a first timer or are not used to climbing on all fours, but if you’re up for a challenge, this hike is so worthwhile

What I love about this hike is the breathtaking views all around you, throughout the hike. Some hikes, you trudge through 2-3 hours of rocks and trails before you reach the beautiful scenery, but this one is beautiful throughout. You’ll get to see the blue Atlantic Ocean, a bird’s eye view of Cape Town City, the majestic Table Mountain and vibrant flowers.

It’s also a fun challenge because you get to climb on all fours, climb up steel ladders by the edge of the mountain which makes you feel like one wrong step and you’ll fall off but it’s safe, hike at the edge of the cliff, which is all very thrilling. The view at the top is also beautiful especially knowing how much you had to overcome to reach the top!

Pack water, some snacks and wear good hiking shoes or sport shoes with good grip, and you’ll enjoy your hike at Lion’s Head.

2. The Rock

The view from the top of Table Mountain is great, but I personally feel the view from The Rock beats that. It gives you a postcard worthy shot of the deep blue Atlantic Ocean peppered with the beautiful landscape of Cape Town city, without it looking too tiny or far away.

Also, this spot is terribly underrated, there was absolutely no one around when we visited so we got to take many IG and Lemon8 worthy pics without any tourists in our photos or fighting for a photo opp.

This place is also special because this was where my boyfriend of 9 years popped the question and I said “yes”, so this will always be a core memory and a special place for us.

3. Boulder’s Beach

South Africa is all about the animals, their wildlife is incredible! There’s so many kinds of animals you can find here, they’re all so well protected from humans and hunting, that these animals can co exist with humans, it’s such a precious and sacred balance. I loved Boulders’ beach because I got to see the penguins (and so many of them) up close without being separated by glass panels like those in the zoo.

They penguins were super adorable. They were busy pecking each other or diving into the sea or waddling around or just lazing around, it was so fascinating to watch that I couldn’t bear to leave. They are also really pretty creatures, with light pink like eyeshadow on their eyes, it almost looks like they’re all dolled up for our pictures.

Listen out to see if you can hear them cry out to each other and try to make out what they sound like, you’ll be surprised, many have said they sound just like donkeys LOL.

✨ Overall exp Rating: 8/10 ✨

Cape Town was such an eye opening experience. It’s a city that I personally misunderstood greatly, I thought it’d be unsafe, not too developed, and so dirty, language would be a barrier and food would be hard to adapt to. Turns out, it was completely the opposite from everything I expected. Where we stayed at V&A waterfront and its surroundings, it’s very modern, beautiful, clean, there’s police patrolling around, everyone speaks English as they learn that widely in schools, along with the Afrikaans language and their food variety was amazing. You can even find legit curry, coconut rice and chilli, I was blown! I loved my experience and highly recommend anyone who wants an out of this world experience to visit Cape Town.

Cape Town’s calling, and it’s got all the chill vibes you need. Whether you’re craving epic views, beach days, or just a little adventure, this spot has it all.
