Ossu minna!💜
Let's #BeReal, we are all a bit confused when we first started Cosplaying as to what to get for our costumes, myself included. However, I've made a simple list (costume based) that helped me get my cosplay together and some skills that can help you when Cosplaying.😉✨
In terms of the cosplay, the first thing that comes into your mind is the costume. So, these are what you need:
1) Similar hairstyle or appropriate wig, or a hijab
that can be styled 💇
2) Contact lenses to mimic the colour of the
character 👀
If you can’t wear lenses it’s not a hard need
even though it’ll make the cosplay true to
character
3) Hair accessories, neck accessories, etc. 💍
Can diy or buy
4) Costume👚
You can decide whether to alter it or not if
you buy premade. Or you could make your
own.
5) Socks🧦
Big win if you can match the socks to a
certain pair the character is wearing.
6) Shoes👠
Sometimes sold separately so you have to be.
able to get the right pair of shoes that make
the costume.
Next is the make up. Now, make up is a big, also, make or break a cosplay kind of thing. Because if the make up is thick, it needs to look clean and not dirty on your face. 🤷If you are doing light makeup, it may not look good on camera. 😅 So, make sure to check out a few tutorials on Youtube or XHS as they have abundant resources on how to do cosplay makeup.
Some tips I can give you are:
1) Match your eyebrow colour to your character
to make the cosplay feel similar to the
character
2) Match the vibe of your make up to your
character. If you character is wearing light
makeup, even if you do thick cosplay
makeup, try to keep your face clean of
colours.
3) Wearing lenses and fake lashes will make
your eyes look bigger for your cosplays.
Last but not least, when you go to cons, there will always be a few skills that will make your experience more enjoyable when you cosplay!
1) Photography skills📸
Stay away from the traditional peace pose
and try poses to fit your character. Aside from
that, learn how to take good pictures or
selfies with people so that your after con
photos look like memories you want to keep.
2) Makeup skills💄
Again, I feel like this is a personal thought, but
no cosplay is ever complete without makeup.
So, if you want to do make up with your
cosplay, definitely watch some tutorials on
how to do cosplay makeup (eyes, lips, blush)
and then get products that suit you. Also pack
a small bag of makeup to cons just in case of
a make up emergency.
3) Sewing skills🧵🪡
Unless you are planning to make your
costume from scratch, having some basic
sewing skills is enough if a seam opens or if a
button falls off. If you have accessories that
need to stay in place, sewing them in place is
a great idea too.
Overall, these are my thoughts and two cents of a beginner’s guide to cosplay. Was there anything else that you’d like to share with beginner cosplayers? If you have, please feel free to comment below!🤔
Yours truly,
Neesha💜
