God’s forgiveness and victory over guilt

Are you reliving past sins? It’s common for believers to remember past sins. The Bible speaks about God’s complete forgiveness, and even though we may remember them, God has chosen to forget them. Hebrews 8:12 (CSB) says, “For I will forgive their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.” When past sins come to mind, they don’t define us anymore because of what Christ has done.

Don’t give power to Satan’s Accusations. The Bible refers to Satan as the “accuser of our brothers and sisters” in Revelation 12:10 (CSB), constantly trying to remind believers of their past to make them feel guilty and unworthy. His tactic is to make us focus on our failures rather than God’s grace.

Have faith in Christ’s forgiveness. The core of the Christian faith is that Jesus has paid for our sins. Romans 8:1 (CSB) assures us, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.” Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we no longer have to carry guilt for past sins. 1 John 1:9 (CSB) also reminds us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Don’t forget to turn to God in prayer! Prayer and repentance are the right responses when we feel the weight of guilt. Philippians 4:6-7 (CSB) encourages us to “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
