Zz plants are another great option if you're looking for a beginner houseplant! Their scientific name is Zamioculcas zamiifolia but it's also known as the "Zanzibar gem" as it's a tropical perennial native to Eastern Africa! It's gained a lot of popularity for being cute while also very low maintenance!
They're considered beginner level because they require little attention! They can tolerate low light conditions however they will thrive best in medium to bright, indirect light. Zz plants are also drought tolerant! They grow from rhizomes under the soil that store water and nutrients so if you forget to water them, they'll be completely fine!
I typically wait for the soil to dry out between waterings, so about every 2-3 weeks. In warmer summer months you can expect to water more frequently (2x a month) but in the winter I'd usually only water once a month!
They are slow growers so don't worry if you don't see any new growth! I've found that they grow in spurts so you'll often see it grow in spring and summer!
Plant care tips:
猸愶笍 wilted or wrinkly leaves? that means your plant is thirsty!! time to give it a drink
猸愶笍 yellowing or mushy leaves? those are signs of overwatering and root rot! remove the dying leaves and let the soil dry out!
猸愶笍 avoid direct sun!! exposure to direct sunlight will scorch your leaves
猸愶笍 avoid cold temperatures! keep it in a warmer area of your home or away from cold drafts
鈥硷笍 Important note: TOXIC 鈥硷笍
Please keep out of reach of your precious
pets! They're toxic to humans when
ingested so if you have any little ones
running around, keep it somewhere away
from them as well!
