It's cheap & affordable, nearby, and has such good weather when everywhere else in SEA is burning! However despite all that, here are some important things to note 👇🏻

|

1) Walkability

Being on a mountain, there are slopes and hills everywhere. There's not much of a flat road to walk on. If you have issues walking or require a wheelchair, do take note!

2) Food

A lot of the food that I've had in the restaurants there weren't to my liking. BUT that's on me. I had a salmon hotpot, when cooked salmon isn't my thing. I had dinner at Yummy Restaurant, which was highly recommended online but the popular coconut curry wasn't to my tastebuds. If I had a choice, I'd have my banh mi from Banh Mi & Breakfast for every meal! 1072457810/10 meal, check out my previous post for more!

3) Ethnic minority ladies

These ladies appear a lot to walk around and sell their pouches/keychains and accessories. However they are extremely extremely pushy and will not leave you alone even after you reject them. The only way they'll leave you alone is after you buy something. I was at a cafe and sat right by the edge of the cafe to take in the city view. However, it being an outdoor cafe and me stupidly choosing that seat, means the ladies had free access to bother us non-stop. Now, I do not fare well with such kinds of pressure. I hate hate hate being pressured and pestered nonstop to buy items, so I really just kept quiet and used my phone. But they totally ruined my experience there, and is the only reason why I'd think twice about going to Sapa. I know it's not their fault and that it's tough to make a living. If you have a tough stance and won't back down then you'll probably have an easier time dealing with them!

4. Taxis and Grab

Unfortunately, there are no Grab cars on Sapa. However once we arrived in Sapa via coach, we were immediately approached by taxi drivers. The taxi driver we went with gave us his WhatsApp, and we continued to use him as a "grab car" for the entirety of our trip. So there should be no issues with transport! Besides, it's still really affordable even though it's not via Grab.

5. Hair washing service

I touched on this in my previous post but I thought I'd mention it here as well. Many of the massage parlours at the main street offer a hair washing service. It would have been great, however, do take note that they use their NAILS to scratch at your scalp. You can try to tell them not to use their nails, but the language barrier is a pain.

6. The MIST/weather condition

The mistiness in Sapa… on a good weather day you’ll see the gorgeous mountain range. On a bad weather day, you’ll find yourself in that forest on the Folklore album. It’s so unpredictable, you’ll never know what kinda weather you’ll get. You just gotta take the gamble and PRAY for good visibility. Remember to chock up some good karma before your trip to Sapa🤭

If you're not convinced on Sapa yet, why not? There are so many pros – affordability, AMAZING weather, nearby — which means only a short trip is needed! Just for the weather alone, it's worth it 🤭
