Hey, ladies 🫶 Let's talk about MENSTRUATION and how we can take care of ourselves during this time of the month.
If you’re anything like me, this phase is a little painful and definitely tiring. I acknowledge it’s a beautiful part of my phase but can admit that it’s not my fav 🥹❤️
Here are three things to AVOID during your period👇
AVOID PROCESSED AND SALTY FOODS 🧂❌
During your period, you may crave salty or sugary foods, but these can actually make PMS symptoms worse. Eat 🍫 with discretion!! Try to avoid processed foods and instead, opt for fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to help reduce bloating and inflammation! I love fruit bowls during this time for a sugar boost 🍓
AVOID OVER-EXERCISING 🏃🏻♀️❌
Exercise is great for alleviating PMS symptoms, but over-exercising can actually make them WORSE. Listen to your body and adjust your workout routine as needed. Try yoga or gentle stretching to ease cramps and improve circulation. I have an entire series about this!! 👀 If you don’t feel much pain and crave some exercise opt for lower-rep strength training! Some people feel stronger this time of the month (crazy, I know!). I love doing yoga and walks outside during this time of the month 🌳
AVOID STRESS 😥❌
Stress can exacerbate PMS symptoms and make periods MORE painful. Practice self-care and relaxation techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or taking a warm bath. Also, try to avoid overworking or overcommitting yourself during this time. This is my me-time and my chance to retreat 🧖🏻♀️ I love snuggling up with a good book or TV show.
