best of ubud bali, in 1 day 🌴🐚

Heading to Bali but not planning to stay a night in Ubud? I got you 🫶🏻 My friends and I did a day trip up to Ubud from Seminyak, a 1h+ drive away. Price-wise, we initially booked a package on Pelago ($61 per pax) for a full day trip with 7 attractions. But a random Gojek driver on our first day offered us RP700K from 9am to 7pm, including petrol, which is ~$16 per pax??? 🥵 He wasn’t too sus and was quite funny la… so we cancelled the Pelago tour and went ahead to engage him. There’s another package on Klook going to the same places we did at $26 here from 9am to 5pm.

What we did:

🚖 9.30am: Depart Villa

🛖 10.30am: Traditional Balinese house — didn’t snap pictures here but this was recommended by our guide. Not a touristy place so I’m not sure what’s it called 🤣 The locals may know though!

🏯 11am: Batuan Temple — One of the tourist landmarks on the way to Ubud, and one of the bigger temples according to our guide. Come here to admire Balinese architecture ~ Entrance fee includes sarong so you don’t have to worry about wearing shorts.

⛲️11.45am: Tegenungan Waterfall — Must-visit! The steps down were steep, but very manageable and the view is 😻 You can go down for a dip in the waterfall. Afterwards if you’re lazy to climb the stairs up, head to Omma, the dayclub at the waterfall for a drink as there is a lift that brings you to the top.

🌴2pm: Tegallalang Rice Terrace — Try ‘Tis Cafe’ if you’re looking for a less commercialised rice terrace spot. The other more touristy one is Cretya, the day club that overlooks a rice terrace if you’re looking to chill there for long. The local food and cocktails here was amazing. There’s also a small pool with sunbeds to chill and swim!

☕️ 4pm: Ubud Market — Head here for shopping and more cafes. We tried ‘Clear Cafe’, which has really zen vibes (had to take off our shoes inside). Food was meh….. but loved the design and concept lol.

🚖 6.15pm: Head back to Seminyak! It was around a 1.5h drive back including the traffic jams at Canggu/Seminyak area.

Though he quoted us 700K for the whole day we gave him 1M rupiah which is ~$23 per pax? Super worth, considering how our guide was super entertaining and our initial package was double the price. Hope this gave you some inspo on where to cover in Ubud ~ Happy exploring!
