While Bangkok is usually associated with shopping, it isn’t a bad idea to mix in some ~cultural~ spots as well especially if it’s your first time visiting the city. Dedicated 1 full day to exploring the iconic Grand Palace, Wat Pho & Wat Arun since they are of close proximity to each other. Here’s what we did:

1. Breakfast @ On Luk Yun — Arrived at 10am on a weekday and there wasn’t any queue! Heard that there’s usually a wait time but not for us. This place serves hearty, traditional breakfast at budget prices. Breakfast platter was homely and the bread with kaya dip is a must-get! So fluffy and chewy at the same time 😍

2. Grand Palace — ⚠️GUYS otw to grand palace there will be locals telling you that it is closed for prayers and they will recommend you to join their day tour instead before sending you to the palace later. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. This is BKK #1 top scam. Just ignore and continue walking towards the entrance⚠️ Remember to wear long pants and non-sleeveless tops too, if not you have to buy a shirt to cover up like I did. Super majestic place with lots to see! Worth travelling for.

3. Wat Pho — Famous reclining Buddha is situated here! This place is almost like a maze; we took quite some time to find the temple housing this icon. This place was a 15-20 min walk away from the Grand Palace, or you can take a TukTuk to beat the heat.

4. Lunch Stop — Wanted to try a famous Pad Thai place 1-2min away from Wat Pho but they were closed :( Stumbled upon this quaint family-run cafe, Ice Yen, instead but food was mediocre only. Great service though!

5. Wat Arun — Super chio photo spot! Took a TukTuk here as it is across the river. The place isn’t big but be prepared to spend some time snapping pictures.

6. Nai Ek Roll Noodles — Popular place in Chinatown to get Thai kway chap (the peppery version) that’s Michelin crowned. Simply take a ferry for 1 stop, from Wat Arun to Chinatown and walk further in around 15 minutes. Everything was so tasty and in particular the fried pork belly was BOMBBBS 🤤

That concludes the day! Now head back and enjoy some Thai massage or something xx
