I have been living and coping with generalized anxiety for about 7 years now and it started when my younger brother passed away. It has been a struggle from when I first experienced a panic attack mid sleep. This kept happening to me for a couple months and it was hard to deal with it until I figured out ways to finally cope with it rather than taking meds. Although there is nothing wrong with being on meds, I personally want to refrain from them until very necessary. Thankfully, I haven’t had the need for them and it is thanks to a couple coping mechanisms I do.
I realized my anxiety is at its worst when I feel extremely overwhelmed. To be honest this is daily. However, I began to write down my goals and tasks I need to get done during the week and this has helped with keeping my schedule and time structured which I lacked hence being overwhelmed and stressed. I also do daily goals and tasks to be more in depth as well. This significantly reduces my anxiety.
Another stress inducing thing I do is scroll through social media more hours than I would like and believe it or not this causes stress too. I now limit the amount of time I spend on my phone and I pick up a book I haven’t finished reading and this helps ease my mind and puts me at a calmer state and slower pace.
