📖 Days at the Morisaki Bookshop

written by Satoshi Yagisawa & translated by Eric Ozawa

Second time I've read it.

It's an easy read where your emotions are just cruising through without any super highs or lows. Although the plot itself is not extremely interesting... its pacing and relatability engage you and provide a sense of comfort whilst you read. I felt a strange sense of warmth as I continued through the chapters.

It is a slice of life novel, where the story revolves around 25y/o Takako, who suffers from a breakup and burnout. Someone who feels as though she lost all sense of direction in life. In her depths of despair, her uncle Satoru invites her to his secondhand bookshop. It's here that she slowly finds herself and starts to heal.

Some of my favourite quotes:

✨️..."It's important to stand still sometimes. Think of it as a little rest in the long journey of your life. This is your harbour. And your boat is just dropping anchor here for a little while. And after you're well rested, you can set sail again."

✨️..."The act of seeing is no small thing. To see something is to be possessed by it. Sometimes it carries off a part of you, sometimes it's your whole soul."

✨️..."That's when I realised it wasn't just a question of where I was. It was about something inside me. No matter where I went, no matter who I was with, if I could be honest with myself, then that was where I belonged. "...

✨️..."People's impressions really aren't very reliable, are they?...unless you really come face to face, you never really know someone at all."...

Honestly... if you really read through the book, there are a lot of life quotes which I feel are comforting for some reason, loll...

To me, the novel reminds me that being lost is part of life. Sometimes, it's okay to just take a pause. It'smore important knowing how things make you feel. Take breaks when you feel like burning out. Enjoy the journey. Find happiness in small things in life.

Good read, I rate it 7.5/10.
