There is no such thing as a low light plant!!

Don't you just love low light plants? There is no such thing as a low light plant!! 🙂 Only low light tolerant plants. Why is that?⠀ ⠀

Plants need sugars to grow and develop. How do they make it? By using light! If you don't provide your plant with the minimum amount of light it needs, it will use it's stored energy reserves (glucose reserves), until they are depleted, and then the plant will start declining in health. That's what happens when someone keeps a plant in a dark corner of their home for weeks and when it starts dying they say "But it's been there for weeks, and it was doing great, what's happening?" Well, it depleted it's energy reserves. ⠀ ⠀

Some plants can tolerate extremely low light levels, like this pothos. I've had it for about 3-4 years. It sits in a dark corner of my kitchen with about 50 lux of light. Due to extremel low light it only grows a few leaves per year.⠀ ⠀

If it had light over 5,000 lux (like my Florida pothos does), it would grow 52 leaves per year (1 leaf per week). And that's 52 leaves per stem. It has more than 10 stems, so it would grow over 500 leaves per year!!!!⠀ ⠀
