#storytime We started out training Mouse with tons of treats! From store bought, then we upgraded to single protein and we realise how much it adds up in the long run. At the same time, we’ve also been cooking his meals, from 50% kibbles and 50% home cooked to just home cooked. We managed to get a meat supplier and decided to start dehydrating treats, and honestly it is soooo easy!

Our favourites are sliced meat that are less fatty (so not pork belly) because they are the cleanest and least stinky to make. About 7 hours to dehydrate at 65 deg celcius if you are able to rotate trays at least once ( TRAY 1,2,3,4,5 swops to TRAY 5,4,3,2,1). If you can’t rotate then dry longer to ensure the highest tray of meat is sufficiently dried.

Organs (liver, heart etc) can stick to the tray and end up pretty messy plus they smell so strong.

Bones like Wing Tips and Pig Ears takes over 24 hours to dehydrate.

We get our meat in bulk, sliced beef costs us about $10/kg and yields about 250gm of dehydrated meat. Bones have a higher yield since bones are already heavy(:

I do not recommend dehydrating oily meat like salmon, the oils will go rancid quickly.
