Sorority Life as a Plus Size Girl

I love being in a sorority. I know people think “we buy friends” and all we do is party. But that’s not the case. I found my people, my future bridesmaids, and the aunts to my future children. But being plus size has definitely been a little hard to my mental health.

1. When ordering chapter merch, sometimes the biggest size a company goes to is large, so our apparel chair is SOOOO GOOD being accommodating to sisters that are bigger. But sometimes it’s embarrassing being one of the reasons why we can’t go with a cheaper company.

2. My mindset of being the biggest one in my friend group has increased. I know I’m pretty, but sometimes my mind is mean to me and calls me ugly even though I’m just heavier than some of my sisters. But I just tell myself that my size does not define me.

3. I feel like I have to be funny and sweet in order for frat men to come up to me at parties. Because I’m not thin, I feel like I have to over compensate in my personality. Now is this not true most of the time. But it’s how I FEEL.

4. I still have the same opportunities as everyone else and my sisters make me feel beautiful about myself. Ever since I joined, I have embraced my feminine side and I contribute that to my org.
