Mount Rainier National Park is a bucket list destination on my list for many years.

If you’re only visiting for the day, you’ll find plenty of parking, especially at the Sunrise area, where ample parking is available, making it easy to explore nearby trails.

The driving distance between the top spots is manageable, and most of the major hiking trails are just a short walk from parking.

📌 Sunrise Park Rd – The most scenic and photographed drive in the park, offering spectacular mountain views. This road leads to Sunrise, the highest point you can reach by car in the park.

With well-maintained trails, parking at Sunrise makes it easy to explore multiple spots in a day. Like these accessible trails:

🥾 Sourdough Ridge Trail

Length: 2 miles (round trip)

Elevation Gain: 400 feet

Difficulty: Easy

Notes: This is a short, accessible trail for all levels, great for stunning views without a strenuous climb.

🥾 Palisades Lakes Trail

Length: 7 miles (round trip)

Elevation Gain: 1,700 feet

Difficulty: Moderate

Lakes: Sunrise Lake , Clover Lake , Hidden Lake , and Upper Palisades Lake

Notes: There are multiple lakes along this trail, offering plenty of beautiful spots to stop for a break or a picnic. The trail is moderately challenging, with varied terrain.

✨TRAVEL TIP: Both hikes can be accessed from the Sunrise point parking area, which has ample parking.
