Guide to wearing a TAMPON 🌺

Ok I know I said I will make a post about Bali but I just realised nobody really talks about this in Singapore ??? So here is my how to guide on wearing a tampon 💋 (with SFW pictures and verrrryyy detailed instructions)

No shame here okay because I just taught myself how to wear a tampon this year! At my big ol’ age of 23 🐥 Unfortunately, I did not have anyone at home who used tampons, and growing up all my friends in school used pads. So give yourself a chance ~ It’s not scary and definitely not painful!

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙗𝙪𝙮?

There are 2 main kinds of tampons on the market: those with applicators and those without. Personally, I prefer those without applicators because they are smaller and easier to carry around ~ I also feel more comfortable using my finger to push the tampon in because I know how far in it is!

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧?

When choosing your tampon brand, definitely don’t skimp on it just because it is cheaper. I know we have all heard of toxic shock syndrome! This is very rare so there is no need to worry about it happening to you 💓 However, choosing the right tampon brand will also play an important role in preventing this from occurring. Choose tampons that are fragrance and dye free ❣️ I have tried Tom Organic as well as O.B. Both are good but I feel that Tom Organic is not very absorbent 🙏🏻

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝙖 𝙩𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙣?

Okay here comes the part we’ve all been waiting for 😆 The first thing you would want to do is prep your tampon (see pic 2) ~

1. Unwrap it and unroll the string from the tampon base.

2. Twist the string a few times.

3. Push in your index finger into the base of the tampon firmly. This makes a small dent in the tampon base for your finger to sit nicely inside when you insert your tampon ~

After prepping your tampon, it’s time to prep yourself!! You may be very nervous and scared of getting hurt. Don’t worry you won’t 💟 Just stay cool and breathe normally ~ You got this 🐥

It’s also good to have some lube on hand to help with the insertion process. Sometimes, we are not lubricated enough ourselves and that’s okay 👍🏻 It’s very normal. If you do use lube, just squeeze a small dollop (~ $1 coin size) on your hand and place it at the entrance of your 😽 (I’m not sure if the word will get flagged hence I will use this kitty emoji).

Once you’re ready, make sure you wash your hands first! Do note if you’re using your right hand to insert the tampon, raise your left leg. Vice versa for the left hand ~

1. Raise your left/right leg. You can place your foot on your toilet seat or a stool.

2. Using your master hand, position the tampon in front of your 😽 The tampon should be slightly angled downwards towards your bum (see pic 3). This is because the 😽 is naturally angled this way and not straight through.

3. Place your index finger at the base of the tampon and push the tampon into your 😽 (see pic 4) If you feel some resistance, it’s normal! However, it should not be hurting you. If you feel pain, remove the tampon by pulling the string and add some lube to the opening of your 😽 Try again!

4. Once it is inside fully, continue slowly pushing the tampon with your index finger. It will feel foreign the first few times you do this, but it’s normal!

5. Stop pushing once your entire index finger is fully in your 😽 (see pic 5)

6. Remove your finger and ensure some of the tampon string is still out of your body.

7. Wiggle your butt around and dance (yes, really🤣) You should not feel the tampon inside you! Yes that sounds weird I know, but when it is far enough up your 😽, it should feel like there’s nothing in there.

8. You did it, well done 🍻🥂 🎉

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣?

Generally speaking, you should not leave the tampon in for more than 6 hours! If you do forget however, don’t worry 💟 Just remove it immediately. You may notice some yellowish/greenish fluid on your tampon as well. This is just cervical fluid and was produced because the cervix was irritated. However, if you noticed yellowish/greenish discharge before using the tampon or even after your period has ended, do see a doctor as it may be an infection! How can you tell? Smell it 😅 Cervical fluid should not be foul smelling. Discharge from an infection is stinky 🐟

Also, I don’t recommend using a tampon when you go to sleep because it’s easier to forget about when you’re rushing to get ready in the morning 🫨 Instead, I have been using overnight panties 🎀 It’s definitely way comfier than pads and more convenient! Brands I’ve tried and loved are Blood and Sofy 💟

Okay this part is for the nail extension lovers: yes you can insert tampons with extensions 🤣 Tried and tested! even those with 3D designs LOLLL just make sure there are no sharp edges 💓

Also… may be TMI but I’m sure you’re wondering what kind of activities you can do while wearing a tampon. I’ve gone swimming, clubbing, watched NDP with my tampon 😆 It’s really so much more convenient than using a pad 🙏🏻 I’ve changed it everywhere too LOL in the club toilet, a porta-potty, random MRT toilet… Yes you can do anything basically ⭐️ I do use birth control as well but I don’t want to delay my period just because of short-term activities/trips because it will affect my hormonal cycle in the long run 🌛
