Is it just me? I get bugged by drain flies wherever I move to! I’ve had a past experience with drain flies in my parents home and after moving into my new place I thought all was good… till we are 1.5 years in and these buggers started to appear.

Having done a fair share of research and treated the problem with multiple recommendations from the internet, I’m here to share some tips and tricks to get rid of them if you’re facing the same problem.

Deep Clean Your Drains: Start by giving your drains a thorough cleaning. Use a drain cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to flush out any organic debris and build-up that might be attracting the drain flies. This really works, but you have to be consistent with it to keep them from coming back. I do a weekly clean at the start and once they stop coming back I do it every other month as maintenance. I also use the 2 products captured in my posts when I just want a quick and easy solution and it’s been working for me so far!

Seal Cracks and Leaks: Drain flies can enter your bathroom through small cracks and gaps around pipes and drains. Seal any openings with silicone caulk to prevent them from gaining access and breeding in these areas.

Eliminate Standing Water: Drain flies thrive in moist environments, so make sure there are no areas of standing water in your bathroom. I dry the bathroom floor with a squeegee every time we are done showering.

Natural Repellents: You can create a DIY repellent using essential oils like tea tree oil or lavender oil mixed with water. Spray this solution around drains and areas where drain flies are frequently spotted to deter them from returning.

Professional Help: If the infestation persists or becomes overwhelming for you, you might want to consider getting the professionals to come in to help!

Hope this helps!
