books that’ll make you think

Honestly, fall and winter are the perfect times to read books that leave you with ✨existential crises✨ and ✨big feelings✨

After fantasy, contemporary/literary fiction is my favorite genre. And i LOOOVE novels in this genre that make me contemplate life and cry. (Who doesn’t love a good cry sesh during a book?? Very therapeutic.)

If you want a book with critiques on white supremacy by authors of color, try The Trees or There There! The Trees is more a murder mystery with some humor, while There There is multi-generational with interconnected stories. (TW: The Trees does have some racial slurs.)

If you’re in the mood for more historical fiction, go for In Memoriam or Shuggie Bain! In Memoriam is a queer romance set during World War I, and Shuggie Bain is a family drama set in 1980s Scotland (also with LGBTQ+ themes).
