literary fiction book recs 🫶🏻

I’ll be honest, i didn’t really read literary fiction/contemporary novels until maybe a few months ago.

BUT!! I have found SO! MANY! EXCELLENT! NOVELS! in these genres, and i want to convince you to try them as well. Yeah these books may not have spice or dragons or fae, but they are thought-provoking and tear-jerking and heartwarming. As a predominantly fantasy reader, I’ve fallen in love with literary fiction/contemporary novels and i know you will too!!

If you’re in the mood for something heartfelt and charming, check out Anxious People! Fredrik Backman is an amazingggg author, and his novel Beartown is one of my all-time favorites.

If you want a nostalgic look at friendships and a sad story, pick up Mayflies. For those looking for more dramatic stories, try Betty or Notes on an Execution.

⚠️ PLEASE check trigger warnings and look at some reviews before you decide to read My Dark Vanessa!! It is a very tough read and deals with extremely difficult subject matter (SA, r*pe, p*dophilia) and can be graphic at times ⚠️
