Hellooo from the Eye of the Tiger: Tampa / St. Petersburg 😅🌪️🚨🙏

Please read and share this information below:

I’ve picked up a few tips to make hurricanes easier—especially during those “fun” no-water situations. I hope these tips help make things smoother for you if you’re ever in the same boat!

But first, let’s talk hurricane prep before you get stuck without water. If you’re a Floridian, you’re either planning your evacuation route or prepping for a hurricane party, right? 😂🍻☔️

Here’s what’s been working for us:

💧 Turn Your Power Off: If you're evacuating, especially if due to flooding risk, it is highly recommended to turn off your electricity at the main breaker! This helps protect your electrical system, your personal safety and speeds up restoration efforts when it's safe to return.

🌀 Stock Up Early: As soon as people start talking, I start building my hurricane stash. It’s never too early! Canned food, meds, snacks that don’t need a fridge, and pet supplies if you have fur babies are all musts. And yep, I fill my cups with filtered water and throw them in the fridge, just in case. Don’t forget the bathtub water for washing or toilet-flushing!

💧 Get Ahead of the Game: When we got the warning that water might shut off around 10 PM, we ran a load of dishes, did laundry, and filled the bathtub immediately. Also, fill all your drinking cups with filtered water and pop them in the fridge. Pro tip: freeze some, too!

🌀 Charge Everything: Trust me, you don’t want to get caught with a dead phone during a hurricane. Charge all your gadgets—phones, laptops, portable chargers (vibrators count too 😉). A solar charger or crank-powered charger can also be a lifesaver.

💧 Hand-Washing Hack: I’ve been using a pot to scoop out tub water and pouring it into small cups for hand-washing. Little cups can go a long way when conserving water!

🌀 Keep Important Docs Together: This works for any emergency, but especially during hurricanes—gather your insurance papers, birth certificates, and passports in a waterproof bag. If you need to leave fast, just grab and go.

💧 Toilet Troubles?: It’s like camping over here. We’re using one toilet for urine and wiping with wipes (toss them in the trash), but here’s the game-changer: get cat litter! We lined a Styrofoam cooler with garbage bags, placed litter in the bottom, and voilà—makeshift bathroom. After use, just sprinkle more litter on top and toss the bag.

🌀 Create a Cozy Sanity Storm Kit: I’m all about the chill hurricane vibes. Candles, board games, books, and sheet masks? Yes, please! I’ve also been downloading podcasts in case we lose Wi-Fi. Gotta keep the vibes right!

💧 DIY Shower with a Trash Bag: Since hygiene is super important for me right now (hello, UTI 😅), my boyfriend showed me a trick that’s been a lifesaver. We filled a grocery bag with water and hung it over the showerhead. I soaped up first, then poked holes in the bottom of the bag to create a mini-shower stream to rinse off. It actually works really well if you have someone to help!

🌀 Know Your Evacuation Plan: Stay on top of those spaghetti models and make sure you’re signed up for local emergency alerts. I live in Flood Zone A, so we’re watching closely. Know where you’re going if you have to evacuate, and let your loved ones know your plan in advance.

💧 Shower Early: If you know the water is getting turned off or there’s even a hint that it might, shower ASAP. For the last Hurricane Helene, I didn’t do this the night before and trust me, I regretted it!

I hope some of these tips help! Stay safe, stay cozy, and remember—you got this.

What are some of your go-to hurricane tips? Share them in the comments and let’s help each other get through this storm season like pros! 💕 🌪️
