Learn from our mistakes, rent the sander.

Our dining room, living room and staircase ceilings were all covered in lovely glitter popcorns.

We started out by soaking the ceilings with warm water like we read online. However, since the layering of popcorn wasn’t extremely think, when we got it wet enough to easily remove. It scraped the drywall like wet paper. This meant we had to turn to sanding after scraping.

Fun fact: you can rent a drywall sander (basically a sander on a stick with a vacuum) from Home Depot.

We didn’t know this so we just burnt up a shit ton of hand sanders and made a GIANT mess.

So here’s the steps for removing popcorn ceiling:

1. Spray with HOT water - be prepared to get wet

2. Use wide scraper and scrape smooth as possible. Pay attention to where ceilings meet the walls.

3. Sander

4. Prime with pink to white ceiling paint (this is handy so you can see where you’ve painted!)

5. Paint your desired color!!
