Bring These to your Newborn’s First Dr Appointment

I found my twin boys first doctors’ appointments fun! I was home for three whole days with lots of crying and no structure. My days were night and my nights were days, it was all such a blur! But the doctors appointment gave me a reason to get out of the house with twin infants.

My husband came with me to the appointment. We were treated amazing, ushered into a room as soon as we got there (to make sure our babies don’t come in contact with too many people and germs.) As we walked in, we received so many oohs and ahs from the waiting room due to a twin stroller and two infants that looked like baby dolls inside. I realized after the fact that we must have been a sight!

Then we met our pediatrician and her and I gabbed about my pregnancy and the boys like we were best friends!

Doctors appointment’s don’t have to be scary, especially the first one. But there are a few things you’ll want to bring with you:

✨ The discharge paperwork from the hospital

Just in case the pediatrician wants to review it (but they may have a copy)

✨ A blanket for your baby

Your baby will be naked for part of the appointment and it may be cold in the office.

✨ An extra outfit for baby

Spit up will happen and babies are messy! Better to be prepared!

✨ Spit up clothes or a bib

For the spit up that is bound to happen!

✨ A bottle (if bottle feeding)

Just in case your baby gets hungry or feeding time is during the appointment.

✨ A diaper or two/wipes

Your baby will need to be naked during part of the appointment so you’ll want to have a clean diaper to put them in afterwards.

✨ Another person (if possible)

Your partner or a someone you trust can be helpful, while your discussing the baby with the pediatrician, they can be watching the baby. Also there’s alot of information thrown your way! It’s useful to have two sets of ears!

✨ A list of questions

This is the BEST time to ask any questions you have about feeding, sleeping, schedules, milestones, etc. No question is a bad question, they’ve heard them all!

✨ Baby’s insurance card

This is soo important! Depending on your baby’s insurance you may only have to pay a copay or the appointment may be covered. Either way, you’ll need this and the reception will store the information for future use.

✨ Notebook & pen (optional)

There will be a lot of information discussed in your baby’s first appointment! Having notes to refer back to will be useful, because these days you may also be suffering from mom brain 😵‍💫

Of course don’t forget their stroller or a winter coat/hat if it’s cold out!
