When I became a mom, I had ideas in my head that I will do everything a certain way! I actually wanted to raise them the way I was raised. But once you start living the mom life, you realize you’re going to change some things.

Here’s some things I thought I’d never do but here I am doing them anyway!

1. Gentle Parenting:

I found out about gentle parenting when I was pregnant. I never had heard of it before! At first I really didn’t like it. I thought that the only way to discipline was to raise your voice, or threaten violence, (I hate violence but wanted to have well behaved children.) I figured my kids would be like me, and never get in trouble because of the fear of discipline.

But now, I’m starting to feel differently. I would rather have a mixture of soft parenting and authoritive parenting. Perhaps this could look like talking to my kids first when they mess up. Explain why they shouldn’t do what their doing. However, if they keep doing the same thing anyway, then move onto a soft version of authoritative parenting, such as raising my voice or timeout. I really have a problem with discipline. I do hope my kids will listen to me when we talk about things first.

2. Screentime:

I work from home and sometimes the tv is the only way I am able to get work done. So occasionally, they’ll watch some educational shows like Ms. Rachel! I realize they’re too young to learn from the tv, but I hope that just hearing it will help them.

3. Talking Baby Talk:

When I first became a mom, I had zero experience with babies and I was always terrible talking to kids! I never used baby talk and never thought I would. But over the last year or so, I’ve heard myself talk baby talk many times, it just kind of happens sometimes.

4. Letting my toddlers leave the table without eating all of their dinner:

My boys are just starting to become toddlers. This comes with the dreaded refusal to eat. They still eat most things, but are starting to spit things out. I am over trying to talk to them about it now since they’re so young. Seriously as long as they eat some yogurt, drink their milk and eat a veggie or two a day, I’m just going to give up on making them eat everything!

What’s some things you thought you’d never do that you now find yourself doing? 🫣
