Couples x Japanese culture | BEST Kimono Rental

Hello loves! I did alot of read up on Kimono rental before going to Japan so here are some tips + my recommendation after trying it out :) I know the title says couple but friends and family can do this as well!

I did this in Kyoto when I visited Fushimi Inari Taisha but this shop has many other outlets avail in Kyoto too :) This shop had alot of good reviews so I was eager to try it. I would say there are cheaper options around and also it is possible to walk into a rental store near popular locations such as Fushimi Inari, but if you are like me and want to book somewhere nice + have things planned then this shop is for you!

Price: plans vary depending on the sets you choose!

- A simple set they pre-picked for you : ¥2980

- Pick from selected designs, incl bag and belt : ¥3980

- Full outfit plan, pick from wider range of kimonos, incl bag, belts, accessories: ¥4980

- Other more elegant/ unique options ranges from ¥5480 to ¥5980

- Yukata plan: ¥3980

- Men’s Kimono: ¥3980

- Hair: ¥500-¥1500 depending on designs

Process:

Quick and seamless! Both my bf and I were given time to choose our desired kimono, belts, inner wear, and bag designs before we were dressed by a professional. There is no private changing room except a toilet, so a TIP is to come in appropriate undergarments you aren’t afraid to show the stylist or other customers in the same room as you 👍🏻

Men will be dressed in a room on level 1 while women are dressed on level 2. After the women are done getting dressed, they will be brought to another room for hair styling! My long hair was done in 10 minutes so I would say it was a really pleasant experience.

We were then given the traditional sandals to wear and off we go! We just had to be back by 630pm that same day (no time limit for duration of wear) to return our outfits but they do allow for special arrangements to return it another day! You can check that out here!

TIP2 : some people might not be comfy walking long hours in the sandals, especially if you are not used to flip flops. I would suggest just wearing your normal shoes and holding the sandals around, just put it on when you needa take pics 😜

TIP3 : The kimono is gonna be TIGHT AF so please do not have a heavy meal before the experience…

TIP4 : Please use the toilet beforehand 👍🏻 you do not want to be carrying layers of kimono on top of a toilet bowl 🫣

TIP5 : If you cannot decide on a kimono design, just ask the staff! They are super friendly and this would help you save so much time🥰
