The 4 steps to learn any language

Always remember the L. R. S. W. acronym when starting to learn a new language (you can build your own mnemonic device if you want, why not).

Keep in mind that: listening, reading, speaking, and writing is the general order to learn a language in stages of fluency.

This does NOT meant that you should neglect all the other stages and only focus on one. For example, you cannot work on your listening comprehension without taking notes. Writing comes last because that is when you have to combine everything you have learned to build formal and established texts (think writing an extensive essay). Make sure to sprinkle in the other stages here and there as you progress - like repeating phrases out loud that you hear on podcasts you listen to, taking notes, and reading subtitles when watching TV.
