Deciding whether to spay or neuter your pup is an important decision that all pet owners have to make. A lot of times, this decision is influenced by factors such as your dog's breed, size, health, and your lifestyle.

We chose to spay Capri at 9 months based on recommendations from our vet. We originally wanted to wait until after her first heat, but due to schedules and timing things that came up, we needed to move her spay earlier. Initially, we had concerns about an earlier spay interfering with her growth and development, but our vet assured us that because she's a smaller dog (20 pounds), there shouldn't be any issues. The procedure went smoothly, and Capri has been extremely healthy so far. Her total recovery time after her spay was ~2 weeks.

For many pet owners, spaying or neutering can offer numerous benefits, such as preventing unwanted litters, reducing the risk of certain health issues, and curbing certain behaviors. However, it's also essential to consider individual circumstances. Some may opt for alternative approaches, like delaying the procedure or choosing to keep their dog intact, which I personally think, are all totally fine and acceptable.

Ultimately, the decision should be made with careful consideration of your dog's well-being, lifestyle, and the advice of trusted veterinary professionals. It's about finding the right balance between responsible pet ownership and what's best for your fur baby 🥹
