IM GOING ON MY FIRST BFF DATE 😬

If making friends in adulthood wasn’t hard enough, I leveled up the challenge by moving to an entirely new city that I knew NOBODY in! 😆

And in this digital-era, what better way to find friends, other than apps! 😉

Before we get there, here’s the answer you may be more curious about - so, did I make any lasting friends?

That’s a no 😅 but I think I have started some budding friendships and had a number of interesting dates! 🤪

So, here’s my list of recommended 💖Friendship Apps💖 (in NYC 🍎):

1) We3

This is an interesting concept, as it matches you with not one, but two friends to form a 📐triad

It also has you completing a personality test to find who would be compatible, backed with some data 😜

A group is more fun than an awkward two, but it also means one more person who may flake on you.

It’s fun when it works, but feels like the user base is decreasing = less fish in the pond 😖

2) Bumble for Friends (BFF!)

This is my current no 1 recommendation!

It’s like Bumble, but for friends, and creates the best ever acronym - BFF! 🌈

They are pushing the premium version, ALOT, but I feel like by having the freedom to choose who I want to connect with, and to be matched only when it’s mutual, there’s already a good base to get the conversations started.

This is how I lined up my date for tomorrow 😉

3) Meetup

More event and interest group based, but show up, be yourself and see where it goes!

I haven’t had much luck with these as it feels like I’m intruding on an already established “clique”, and there’s more events for singles or for professionals networking, but if you see something that interests you, go for it!

4) Reddit/Facebook Groups

Yes, FB is not dead, esp when it comes to a larger group of people. Search for groups in your area + your interests and join them! For NYC, r/nycmeetups is a great place where you can post about your event/what you’re looking for, like an ad board. My sister has found success through Reddit, especially in a more rural area that the above apps aren’t widely used in. 🚨If meeting in person, always pick a safe, public place such as a busy coffee shop for your first date. Safety always comes first! 🚨

And so, with my coffee date lined up for tomorrow, I am super excited and nervous 🦋

I’m gonna have to remind myself it’s NBD and just enjoy the experience, because if it scares me, I know I’m going to learn and grow the most from it. And the best experiences in life have been the scariest ones to start.
