4 Tips for those overwhelmed by Thrifting 👀

☁️ Context:

We happened to be in the area for Cafe hopping and decided to drop by to check out The Luggage Market. There’s a a huge crowd and lots of clothes piling up at different corners, it can be pretty overwhelming for many!

We decided to window shop at level 2 of the mall where we had a great bird eye view of the entire space. But of course, we did walk through the market but couldn’t find much that caught our eyes.

🤩 Tips

Tip #1 : Know your measurements (briefly is fine) and lookout for vendors similar to your size before you dig into the pile. Chances are what they can wear is what you can wear to, but do the proper measurements before u buy it.

Tip #2 : Shop with cash so you don’t overbuy what you budgeted for.

Clothes are dirt cheap here, going for $1 - $2, you might buy it for a side project to alter clothes or what not, but what I often realised is that thrifting can be addictive and if you don’t have a cap to track how much you’re spending, you might end up buying a lot of clothes you don’t need.

Tip #3 : Be patient, and have standards.

There’s a lot of things going around at the market. To discover great finds, you really need to know what you like. You’ll go through the piles faster rather than digging through just to see what will match in your wardrobe. While you can do that, if you enjoy thrifting like that. That’ll take a lot of time for you to go through the market.

Tip #4 : Learn how to discern quality.

Don’t buy just because it’s cheap or from a good brand. But because it’s worth buying. You must acquaint yourself with what a good quality item, to you, is like. For instance, skip the stretchy / plastic / stained / white clothes, you know that those are not lasting and cannot fix them. You’ll know when you touch a sturdy clothing material that’s made of proper cotton or other materials.

⭐️ Conclusion:

Overall, I feel that the Luggage Market was #NotForMe because it’s mostly female clothes which is understandable and there’s really not much options for guys.
