🚨 am I a bad kid for not giving my parents money?

#UnpopularOpinion but I don’t give my parents money for monthly allowance 👀 and I don’t think that this makes you a bad child. Ok yes you might be thinking I’m trying to validate my own actions but here’s why i disagree with giving parents money 👇🏼

💰 YOUR MONEY IS YOURS

money that you earn is yours, you’ve worked hard for it and you don’t have to be obligated to share it with anyone. It’s meaningless if you’re giving money to your parents just for the sake of it, just because everyone does it and says you should.

💰 YOU’RE NOT YOUR PARENTS RETIREMENT FUND

as controversial as it sounds, you don’t owe your parents money even though they’ve spent a lot bringing you up. You didn’t choose to be born anyway so why should the burden lie on you?

💰 DIFFERENT FAMILY DYNAMICS

every family is unique, I know a friend who gave her parents money and they used it to gamble instead of paying for monthly utilities or bills - which creates a vicious cycle of them asking for more money 🥲

I’m fortunate that my parents do not burden me with giving them money and when I do give them they put it to good use, but this might not be the case for everyone!

💰 “REPAY” THEM IN OTHER WAYS

giving money isn’t the only way to repay them, buy them dinner, bring them on a holiday, pay some of their bills for them - there’s so many other ways to do so!

🧧🧧 filial piety is everything growing up in an asian household, but money doesn’t solve it all!!! To those who feel bad about not giving your parents money, it’s okay! 🤍
