Home to pastas and pizza, and my heaven because I’m a pasta girl 🤭 I ate pasta every meal for this 5 day trip 🙈 not sure if that’s something I should be proud of but through that I have learnt a lot about pastas! Here’s a quick basic guide about pasta in Italy 🍝

🤌🏼 handmade vs non handmade

I’d recommend to try at least once the handmade pastas, These are usually freshly made by the restaurant and for some you can even see them rolling and making the pastas in full view! They also have a different texture, slightly chewy and thicker - like udon sized. To identify in the menu they are written as “pasta fatta in casa

🤌🏼3 MUST TRY PASTAS

If you don’t have the stomach to eat pasta every meal, these 3 are the top to try cacio et Pepe, carbonara, amatriciana.

1️⃣Cacio et pepe basically is just cheese, salt and pepper - simple and amazing but could be slightly too cheesy if you’re not really a fan of cheese! 2️⃣Carbonara has bacon, cheese and egg - its really very different here than what I’ve tried outside I would think this can be a safe choice to try for non pasta fan! 3️⃣However, if you are a tomato based person, I’d advice to go for the amatriciana which is tomato sauce, bacon and cheese.

🤌🏼Pasta culture

Usually pasta is considered a first course (or Primi in Italian menu) where the main course is usually more meat based, so you’ll find less meat heavy pastas in Italy. Don’t be surprised if your waiter also asks if you would like more food after pasta because its totally normal for them! You’re not obliged to order a main, they know tourists like us are usually just for the pasta!
