As a college student moving into a new apartment, I had two priorities: create and aesthetic, cohesive space and do it on a budget. I was incredibly lucky to find so many thrifted items in my hometown this summer and bring them down, such as a $38 length gold mirror from Goodwill and $45 white desk from Facebook marketplace. I wanted to give a few otther tips on how to decorate space without spending too much money:
- pick a color scheme and a metal accent and stick to it. for example, i choose pink and white with gold accents, which helped me pick only items that would fit in that scheme.
- hunt for vintage magazines. most of the wall decor in my room comes from $2 1970s Look and Time magazines; I cut out the pages I think fit the vibe.
- if you can't find vintage posters, print out 8x10s at walgreens of Pinterest prints. this only costs about $10 for multiple prints.
- use online resources! students are ALWAYS looking to give away or sell furniture at a very cheap price. the best times to look are early May and late August.
- goodwill furniture is the way to go. they will help you take it to your car, and you can purchase on sale days!
