Freelancing in the world of photography is a thrilling journey that offers creative freedom and endless opportunities. Yet, this path is also filled with unexpected challenges and truths that I've personally encountered.

Let's delve into these experiences together:

1. You may get sick of your job like those who work 9 to 5.

As flexible as freelancing sounds, sometimes, I find myself just as frustrated with my job as those stuck in a 9 to 5 grind. Dealing with clients can be a rollercoaster, and there are days when the excitement wears off, leaving me with that mundane feeling. :(

2. The Lonely Path of working alone

Freelancing can be a lonely road. The workload can be overwhelming, and there are moments when I wish I had someone to turn to for advice, especially during times of self-doubt.

3. Exploitation in the Starting Stages

Starting out, I've learnt the hard way that you might encounter people looking to exploit your skills, often asking for free services in exchange for adding to your portfolio. It's essential to know your worth and have the courage to say no.

4. Art vs. Business: the Constant Tug-of-War

There is always a constant tug-of-war between artistic freedom and business practicality. Clients might have a different vision from mine, and finding that balance can be a real struggle. It's an ongoing quest for harmony.

5. Comparison: The Silent Thief of Joy

Comparison can be a real joy thief. When I see other photographers' work, it's easy to doubt my abilities and fall into the trap of imposter syndrome. This is one of the reasons why I started to slow down for my mental health.

6. Drawing Boundaries for Work-Life Balance:

The line between work and rest can blur easily. Clients often message me at all hours, and it's crucial to learn when to draw the line. Giving myself designated "no replies" dates has been a game-changer for maintaining a work-life balance.

I hope these are useful to those embarking on their freelancing journey!!!
