$36k Reno Self-Designed BTO Home Tour -Part 1

Hi guys! I received a comment asking for more room tour so I decided to do a more thorough walkthrough if my home. Our renovation was completed around one year ago. We spent $36k and worked with a contractor instead of ID as our reno is rather simple. I believe the cost of reno us now gone up, so please just take the amount as a rough reference. Let’s get into the details of my living area!

Living Room Theme: Scandi Boho, Disney, Open concept

Here are some key points from our living room reno:

1. We hacked down a room!

We hacked down a room behind our living room to create a bigger space. It makes our entire space looks bigger. We use the space to eat, chill and work. We have a collapsible dining table that eat and work at. When it is not used, we simply collapse it and enjoy the big space.

2. We left the bomb shelter door as it is!

We did not built anything to cover our bomb shelter door and simply left it as it is. We are ok with the look of it and it helped us to save some money. I bought magnet hooks to put in the door to hang masks and decorate with some posters. We also left our DB doors as it is. (But we did ask to add shelves at the bottom part)

3. Disney theme!

Our living room is Disney theme. But we didn’t go for the loud, colourful kind of Disney. We tried to play around with decors that fits the Scandi Boho vibe!

4. Arch shelf as key feature

One thing that we kept budget for is the arch shelf! It was very much a thing one year back and I think the trend is kinda dying now. But no regrets! It is one of my fave parts of the living area. I made the depth of the arch around 30cm, so we can play with layering with the decor. I feel that it is hard to make the shelf functional if the depth is too narrow!
