Some back story – During my pregnancy, I was bleeding and had spotting quite a bit. Each time, I would visit the a&e and ensure everything was okay. On my 1st a&e visit, doctor prescribe progesterone. On my 2nd visit, I had infection and had medication to help with it.

23 October 2023, I felt cramps/pain every few hours and not thinking much, I went to Google and assumed it was Braxton Hicks (Braxton Hicks contractions, also known as practice contractions or false labour). As each day passes, the pain increases and becomes more frequent.

25 October 2023 at midnight, I kept waking up due to the pain but managed to fall back asleep when the pain subsided. At 8.30am, I woke up and prepared to start my work, luckily it was a WFH day but I had multiple meetings and at the first meeting, I couldn’t speak because of the pain. I couldn’t eat my lunch cause I was in so much pain and the timing of the pain got even more frequent.

By 4pm, I couldn’t take it and went to a&e and this time because I was over 21 weeks, I had to be at the delivery suite instead. I told them how I was feeling pain every few minutes and then I was strapped on ECG, had cervix checked and everything seemed normal but had some old blood that the doctor assumed was infection and sent me home with medications.

I went home, tried to have my dinner but the pain was so bad that I couldn’t do anything. I tried sleeping but once I closed my eye, the pain comes. At 1 am, I went to the washroom thinking I needed to poop but instead, I felt something was wrong in my pubic area and immediately asked my husband to send me to the hospital. Before we could even change clothes, my waterbag broke.

Called the ambulance, and was immediately sent to the hospital and when we arrived at the delivery suite, I could hear the PA system and was announcing code blue for neonatal at the delivery I was at. In 3 minutes with 1 push, my baby was out. We couldn’t hear a single sound of crying, cooing or anyone speaking. We do not know if baby was alive.
