the most relaxing café in sg ☕️

need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? my answer to this question ^ is often a definitive yes, so when my friend and i stumbled across this café, we decided to venture inside.

Simple Café 簡單。

the name of this café is truly encapsulated by it's interior and general ambience. described as both "taiwanese" and "japanese" style by others online, this is a place you can naturally relax in! the staff were friendly, and the whole atmosphere was homely <3

as my friend and i had just grabbed some acai at the business concourse, we were only thirsty and looking for a place to comfortably carry out our own activities. so, we ordered the iced osmanthus oolong tea, and iced kyoho grape oolong tea respectively.

osmanthus oolong tea ($6): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 (comments from my friend - the drink is really refreshing! it's not too sweet, nor too diluted. it only got diluted because the ice cubes melted whilst she was too distracted beading 💀)

kyoho grape oolong tea ($6): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5/5 (so refreshing!! it's not too sweet, and manages to have hints of a kyoho grape taste 🫶 only con for me would be the fact that the cup was way smaller than i thought it would be)

there were so many interesting-looking pastries that sounded unique and lowkey delicious!

- there were only a few people so it was quiet and peaceful (although we did come on a wednesday early afternoon)

- really cute handdrawn doodle/images all around

- i loved how you could overhear some conversations (respectfully), and get the sense that most that visit this café are friendly regulars. this makes for a fun time because you can just people watch, write, doodle, study, or even bead bracelets to some soft background noise!

- THEY ALSO HAVE A CLEAN TOILET so instant plus points from me.

- located under a void deck, and feels like a little odd place so might be easy to miss!

- average price range of a café (so slightly expensive for me 😪)

🤍 reflections:

my friend and i had sat there for about 2 hours, as i wrote whilst she beaded bracelets. we sat in silence for the majority of the time, and listened to our own music. as we were leaving, i suddenly recalled that a few years ago, i was visiting a café with another group of friends and one of them had offhandedly commented that the 2 people beside us were both reading and using their phone, respectively. she briefly commented how she found this odd, as they just sat in silence together, and did different activities. now, i often do this with friends (especially close ones). i don't find it boring or a result of silences that are loud. i love it because we can simply enjoy each other's company. i have friends that i can spend time in silence with, and others that i can never stop talking with, and this balance makes me so happy ☺️

it was so fun to people watch. many people pass by, and i loved staring blankly out the window. there were families, friends, and individuals that came and left. it made me wonder a lot about their lives and get inspired.

i really do think this is such a lovely place to relax and enjoy in 🫶
